RD Microwaves system jumper and test cables are made from the best low PIM materials available for both static and dynamic PIM performance.
Our cable assemblies are made from PIM friendly materials and construction that has been the industry standard for over 25 years for the manufacture of PIM test and calibration instruments and standard loads in addition to cable jumpers. The same cable type is also used in our low PIM termination loads and attenuators.
Our PIM-friendly raw cable has a solid copper silver plated center conductor, PTFE dielectric, and copper braid with a thick covering of hot-dipped tin that bonds the braid. The bonding of the braid prevents the braid strands from microscopic movement that would cause PIM.
The braid also serves as an RF leakage barrier and low PIM outer conductor. It provides flexibility and hand-conformable forming that allows the cable to hold its shape in a flexible yet formable manner to shape the cable for installation.
In addition to the use of low PIM cable, our connectors are prequalified and screened for workmanship, materials, plating, and specifications and are 100% tested for both PIM and VSWR.
All connectors are soldered to the center contact and shell of the connector and cable braid using premeasured amounts of solder and precise tools to control the configuration of the actual solder joint for proper RF performance. Crimped joints are not used. Automated stripping and cutting tools with precision tolerances are used for consistent unit to unit construction required for the best sweep and PIM tests.
The following information outlines the most popular cable sizes and connector figurations with options including additional connector stress reliefs (metal or plastic cable boots) or PIM-friendly right angle sweep bend that we have available.
